PS4 vs Xbox One preorders not available on Amazon, Gamestop, Walmart, Best Buy; sold out until 2014

The Playstation 4 will launch on Nov. 15, followed by the launch by the Xbox One console on Nov. 22.

Gamers can't wait to get hold of the next-gen consoles from both Sony and Xbox One, but for those who did not pre-order prior to this month's launch will need to be first in line at retail stores on the day of the launch.

Pre-orders for both the PS4 and Xbox One were available on Gamestop, Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart and Target, but the demand for the consoles were so high that they have stopped accepting preorders.

The online retailers reportedly cannot confirm when they will receive new inventory for the consoles as the demand remains high.

Gamestop spokesman Jackie Smith told NBC News: "Reservations are currently closed for both the PS4 and the Xbox One and demand is high. In fact, our 'first to know' mailing lists for next-generation consoles have more than 2.2 million subscribers!"

Gamers are expected to camp out at retailers such as Best Buy to be the first to get their hands on the consoles. Best Buy has released information for the midnight launch of the consoles and instructions on how to pick-up the consoles that have been pre-ordered.

Best Buy will hold the product for up to eight days after the PS4 hits shelves on Nov. 5. However, customers must pick-up the consoles at the specific store that they have chosen.

BestBuy stated: "We are anticipating lines to form at many of our stores so we recommend that you arrive early. The processing of pre-orders will begin up to 2 hours before midnight and will begin with the front of the line and continue in the order that people arrived.

"While your pre-order may be processed before midnight, no consoles will be given to customers until after 12:01 a.m."

Walmart spokesperson Sarah McKinney confirmed to NBC News that the retailer will have inventory for launch day across select stores but that "there's nothing you can do to guarantee them right now."

Sony has received over a million pre-orders for the PS4 while Microsoft received just under a million. Both consoles are very popular and the new supply is not expected to be available until 2014.

The Playstation 4 will launch on Nov. 15 in the U.S. and Canada. The console will be released in Europe, Australia and New Zealand on Nov. 29, 2013.
