The latest "Pokémon" game was released last week, and fans are now playing "Pokémon Sun" and "Pokémon Moon" on the Nintendo 3DS. The game won't be available on other platforms, and while one can't go out in the real world to catch pocket monsters just like in "Pokémon GO," players will get to explore the Hawaii-inspired Alola region as they hunt down Pokémon in the new game.

There are over 300 Pokémon to catch in the Alola region, but there is a way to make other Pokémon from other regions spawn in the game. To do this, one merely has to use the Island Scan feature which a player can access a few hours into "Pokémon Sun" and "Pokémon Moon."

After spending some time on the game, a player will see the QR Scanner in the Rotom Pokédex. With this, one can scan QR codes of any Pokémon in the game and add them to the Pokédex. Gamers will be able to see where the Pokémon spawns in Alola and also get 10 points.

Once a player scans 10 QR codes, the Island Scan can be activated. This feature allows one to scan whichever island the player is on to find a rare Pokémon. Once a Pokémon has been located, a player is given one attempt to catch it.

Players can only scan up to 10 codes a day, so the Island Scan feature can be activated only once daily. Because of this, gamers should remember that the scan should be used on the islands with the best Pokémon and that one must have full access to any island a player chooses to scan via the game's story. If the Pokémon spawns in a location that one has yet to reach, then a player might have to move on as the spawn lasts for only an hour.

Players can go here for all 472 QR codes.
