'Pokemon GO' events 2017, news updates: Grass event now live

Niantic has launched another event on the popular augmented reality game "Pokemon GO." This time, the event will bring in an abundance of Grass-type Pokemon.

The "Pokemon GO" Grass event to end on May 8 Pokemon Go live

The "Pokemon GO" craze is slowly starting to dissipate. To entice players to revisit the game, Niantic has come up with themed events. This season, the developers have come up with an event, appropriate for spring. It will draw out Grass-type Pokemon, and the developers hope it will attract more players back to the field.

The "Pokemon GO" team writes, "Professor Willow's research into Pokémon habitats around the world has uncovered some interesting findings. His initial reports indicate that we'll see an influx of Grass-type Pokémon sometime this weekend."

Niantic is encouraging Trainers to take advantage of the event, and document their adventure. They are urging players to document their catch by using the Pokemon GO AR camera. Niantic hopes that players will share their screenshots on social media with the hashtag #Pokemon Go.

The event started in the afternoon of May 5, wherein a rather decent number of Grass-type Pokemon started appearing. This event will only be live for a limited amount of time. The event will end on May 8.

Aside from themed and seasonal events such as this, Niantic is creating community events that will get players to explore cities around the U.S. The company has teamed up with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation for this endeavor. These community events will have specific routes that will serve as guides around the city. Apart from the usual gyms and Pokestops, the route will include historical sights and other notable sights in the city. During the event, roads will be closed so trainers can walk and socialize safely.

The first community event will start on May 7 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

These events are a few of Niantic's goals for 2017. The developers also plan on revamping the "Pokemon GO" gameplay by adding player-versus-player combat and trading.

More updates should arrive soon.
