Nintendo is preparing its Switch player base for a very kinetic Christmas, as "Pinball FX3" has been announced for the handheld console.

Developer and publisher Zen Studios has finally announced that the digital pinball game will be released on Switch before the year ends, specifically on Dec. 12. The developers have also made the announcement via an official video trailer for YouTube, showcasing the game on the small screen of the Switch. The trailer also showcases the game's varying themes, with some being inspired by movies such as the "Alien" franchise.

Other themes and table designs are inspired by popular television shows like "Family Guy" and "Bob's Burgers." Aside from movies and TV cartoons, "Pinball FX3" will also be borrowing ideas from games like "Portal," where the pinball will be allowed to go through portals and come out of a corresponding exit. Since the game is also planned for the Switch, it will utilize some of its most prominent features, such as cross-platform play, match-up and league tournaments, and of course, the high-definition (HD) rumble support.

The best part of all this is that the game is free to download, and play and will require no initial payment. That said, players should expect that premium tables might cost them or will need be unlocked first since there is only one free table included when the game is downloaded. There will be a total of 30 tables available at launch, but these must be purchased separately.

The game was actually delayed a couple of weeks back due to Nintendo reworking a feature in order to optimize it. An employee from Nintendo has informed Zen that the system would work better if they removed one of the joycons in the game. This prompted Zen to set the release date several days back, but rest assured, it will now play better on the Nintendo Switch.

"Pinball FX3" is set to be released on Switch on the aforementioned date of Dec. 12.
