Pastor Greg Laurie Urges Americans to Pray for President-Elect Trump Regardless of How They Voted

A lot of Americans are unhappy that Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump won over his opponent Hillary Clinton, but Pastor Greg Laurie from Harvest Christian Fellowship believes now is not the right time for Americans to be divided over their political beliefs.

"America has spoken. Let's all pray now for our President-elect, Donald Trump. Regardless of how you voted, it's time to set that aside and pray for wisdom for our new president as he puts his cabinet together and sets the course for the future of what I have always believed is the greatest country on Earth — the United States of America," Laurie wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

"Our strength has always come from our spiritual roots," he continued. "I pray that America turns back to God. He has never turned His back on us. Scripture reminds us that, 'The Most High rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever He will' (Daniel 4:17)."

The same message is echoed by evangelist Franklin Graham, who considered Trump's win as the "biggest political upset of our lifetime."

No matter what people might think of their new president and vice president, Graham said the most important thing they can do right now is pray — pray for Trump, Mike Pence, and pray for their future. He said that Americans desperately need God's help and direction, so they need to be "one nation under God" again.

"This election has been long, it's been tough, and it's been divisive. It's time to put that behind us. Now is the time to come together in unity and work together," he posted on Facebook. "Our nation has so many problems that need fixing. Even more important are the spiritual needs of our country. Whether we are rich or poor, without Jesus Christ we are the most desperately in need, the poorest of the poor. We cannot ignore His hand and His supreme authority."
