'Overwatch' news: Halloween skins and event teased

A Frankenstein's monster version of Roadhog is expected to return in Halloween Terror for "Overwatch." Overwatch official website

Players of Blizzard's "Overwatch," the online first-person shooter (FPS), can now play trick-or-treat, as the Halloween event for the game gets announced.

The event, named Halloween Terror will arrive on "Overwatch" on Oct. 10 with a bundle of treats and tricks, as well as new skins and costumes for the players. The brief teaser for the event only confirmed new costumes for McCree and Reaper, but that does not mean other characters will be left out of the Halloween fashion show. GameSpot speculated that there will be more based on the past Halloween events.

Halloween Terror may also reintroduce the special gameplay mode, Junkenstein's Revenge, which was last Halloween's wave-based co-op mode where a team of four players fights off hordes of baddies. This was the first ever implementation of a player-versus-computer mode in "Overwatch," which is mainly a player-versus-player (PVP) game. This will once again usher in a welcome change of pace for the players.

The game mode saw characters Ana, McCree, Hanzo, and Soldier 76 team up against an artificial intelligence-controlled Witch Mercy, Evil Doctor Junkrat, Pumpkin Head Reaper, and a Frankenstein's monster version of Roadhog. New characters are also expected to be included in the Halloween horde mode.

The monster-filled mode was well-received, in its past iteration, and players even clamored for a permanent version of it in the "Overwatch." Still, Blizzard has not yet confirmed any announcements regarding Junkenstein's Revenge.

Engadget also assumed that players will be able to buy last Halloween's skins at more affordable prices since new skins will be introduced in the game. Overwatch did this price drop with its last two Summer events, so it may not be a far-fetched assumption.

Halloween Terror for "Overwatch" will be released on the aforementioned date of Oct. 10 and will last until Nov. 2 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
