Starbreeze pushes back the release of its first-person survival horror game called "Overkill's The Walking Dead" to another year.

According to a translated press release from Starbreeze CEO Bo Andersson Klint, the new delay is necessary so they can deliver the game with its "full potential."

"We, together with the development of OVERKILL's The Walking Dead decided to extend the production schedule so that the title will reach their full potential and pursue our original vision a step further. Together with Skybound Entertainment we are fully dedicated to releasing an unforgettable experience for fans throughout world and then continue to support it with high quality content in the coming years," Klint states.

Starbreeze will provide the Diesel engine that will be used for the upcoming "Overkill's The Walking Dead" game.

This is not the first time that the release of the newest video game, inspired by Robert Kirkman's hit comic book and TV series on AMC, has been delayed. In January 2016, Starbreeze also announced on its website that the supposed 2016 launch of the game will be delayed to the second half of 2017 due to its new partnership with the Korean game company called Smilegate.

"To maximize the new opportunities, Starbreeze, 505 Games and Skybound have decided to release the game in all markets during the second half of 2017. The partners are convinced this will pave the way to success, maximize revenues and cement it as a tent pole product for the next decade to come," the company states during that time.

According to Overkill's website, the upcoming "Overkill's The Walking Dead" will be a first-person shooter game that will feature several elements of action, role-playing, stealth, and survival horror. It will allow players to venture into the vast universe of "The Walking Dead" franchise, where they will take over the roles of the survivors who have to do anything to stay alive during the post-apocalyptic society dominated by flesh-eating zombies.

The exact release date of "Overkill's The Walking Dead" has yet to be announced, but Starbreeze will host a livestream event on Wednesday, May 10, to discuss the game's development.
