'Outrider' news: Arnold Schwarzenegger cast as cowboy in Amazon's series

Arnold Schwarzenegger is back on the small screen, and this time he will be in the west, as the governor/actor will be starring in Amazon's "Outrider" series about cowboys.

Not only that, he will also be one of the executive producers for the upcoming show and will oversee production. Schwarzenegger will play a ruthless Federal Marshall who is forcibly partnered with a deputy in Oklahoma Indian Territory in the late 1800s in order to catch a legendary outlaw.

Should the project progress, it will mark Arnold's first regular TV show involvement since all his previous projects were for the big screen. Although he did appear as himself in numerous television shows, he had not acted as a different character other than himself. It has not been revealed yet who will portray the deputy Schwarzenegger will be partnering with in the show, but there should be a chemistry between the aging and seasoned actor, so it is most likely a younger partner.

Meanwhile, "Outrider" will be written and executive produced by Trey Callaway and Mark Montgomery, along with another executive producer Mace Neufeld — a total of four producers including Schwarzenegger. The show is reportedly set to be full of surprises, with the characters blurring the line between good and bad. There also seems to be major plot twists along the way with allies becoming enemies, meaning Schwarzenegger may as well become enemies with his deputy partner as the show progresses.

One thing to note is that Schwarzenegger's character in "Outrider" is actually quite similar to him in real life, since the Federal Marshall he will be playing is a European immigrant who migrated to the United States as a child. This makes the Austrian-born 70-year-old actor quite perfect for the role.

This is also somewhat of a new horizon for the actor, as he previously starred in blockbuster action and comedy movies back in his prime. "Outrider" is quite darker than most of what Arnold did back in his heyday, and it should be interesting to see how he fits in a cowboy costume now.

No premiere date has been revealed yet for the upcoming show.
