'Outlander' season 2 spoilers: Jamie and Claire's time in France

A first look at Jamie (Sam Heughan) in France in Outlander season 2 Facebook/ OutlanderTVSeries.starz

Season 2 of "Outlander" is set to begin in France as Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) fled to the country to escape the English who are hunting Jamie. Aside from that, the two are also determined to change history as they attempt to stop the Jacobite rising by seeking Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Heughan said that Jamie, while in France and living the life of an aristocrat with his wife, will still have to deal with the trauma that he experienced in the hands of the sadistic Black Jack Fraser (Tobias Menzies). In season 1 of the show, Jamie was brutally tortured and raped by Fraser before he was rescued by Claire.

Heughan spoke to Blastr and said that Jamie will play the political game in France "but he's not relishing it at all."

"Publicly, he's a good businessman and very charming, but in those nights with Claire we see the mask come off," he said.

And while Claire helps Jamie as best as she can, she will also be having quite a difficult time because she is in the early stages of her pregnancy. The pregnancy was revealed during the season 1 finale, just as the pair was about to set sail to France.

But despite all these, Heughan said that these ordeals will only serve to bring the couple closer as they try to change the fate of those in Scotland. The actor said that Claire will use the idea of changing the future as a mission that Jamie can focus on so he can cast aside the awful things that happened to him.

"They are going through a very complicated time in their relationship. It's not an easy time for them, but it's beautiful to watch how they figure out a way to support each other," Heughan said.

The second season of the show is based on the second book in the "Outlander" book series by Diana Gabaldon titled "Dragonfly in Amber." It has been earlier reported by E! Online that fans will also meet Jamie and Claire's daughter Briana in season 2, not as a baby but as a full grown woman. Casting for the role of Briana is ongoing according to reports.
