'Orphan Black' season 4 update: Delphine's return 'remains to be seen'

Evelyne Brochu as Delphine in Orphan Black BBC

Revelations and losses in the third season of "Orphan Black" hint at new challenges for the clones and the domination of an old enemy when the show returns to BBC America. Last season's finale saw Delphine (Evelyne Brochu) being gunned down, and it was revealed that the cyborg cult Neolution was the one responsible for the clone experiments.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, co-creator Graeme Manson gave some insight into what the recent developments will mean to the show in season 4. While Manson kept mum about Delphine's fate, his statements gave viewers hope that the character could still be alive.

In the finale, Delphine was warned that she would die and she bade an emotional goodbye to Cosima. However, fans did not get to see her body and many think that if they didn't get a glimpse of the body, then it's possible that Delphine could still be alive.

"We wanted to make a strong choice with the character this season, and worked with Evelyn to craft the role of Delphine," Manson said of the character's pivotal scene in the finale, adding that they wanted to tell a story about true but impossible love.

As for the character coming back for season 4, the co-creator acknowledged that the gunshot wound was "pretty serious" but said that as for Delphine's return, "that remains to be seen" in the next season.

In the finale, Rachel's mother Susan, who was thought to be dead, was revealed to be very much alive. Manson said that Susan's presence will be part of another big mystery in season 4.

"If [Rachel] is with Susan Duncan, then she's with the only surviving creator. So that's the mystery moving forward," Manson said.

The new season appears to be filled with new mysteries that will see a change of pace for the show. Speaking to Deadline, lead actress Tatiana Maslany gave one spoiler for season 4.

"The only thing I know for sure is that it will feel like the pace of Season 1. It will have that sort of mystery," said Maslany.

"Orphan Black" season 4 is scheduled to be aired in 2016.
