Oprah Winfrey shares reason why she does not want to get married

There are a lot of women who do not think that marriage is their cup of tea, and media mogul Oprah Winfrey is one of them.

While speaking to showrunner Shonda Rhimes during the Oprah Winfrey Network's programme "SuperSoul Sunday," Winfrey revealed that she almost got married to her longtime partner Stedman Graham over two decades ago, but she was glad that the wedding did not push through.

"I don't know if I've ever said this publicly, but I really wanted to be wanted to be married to," Oprah said. "I wanted Stedman to want to marry me. The moment he asked me to marry him I was, like... 'Now I actually have to get married?'"

The wedding should have taken place in 1993, but for some reason, it never materialised because of her busy schedule.

"I was supposed to do a book at the same time... and the wedding and the book were happening around the same time. We were on our way from the book party and Stedman said he did not want to have his wedding disturbed by all these people asking me about the book (which I ended up not doing)," Oprah shared. "I said, 'Okay. All right. So he said, 'We should just postpone this wedding. I said, 'Okay.' And that was it. We have never discussed it again."

The fact that her supposed groom never brought the subject up again might have caused any other woman to be upset, but not Oprah. In fact, she considers that move a blessing in disguise.

"What I realised is, I don't want to be married," Oprah said. "Because I could not have the life that I created for myself. I knew that I couldn't do it."
