There has been a lot of One Direction news lately, ranging from Louis Tomlinson expecting a baby with his friend Briana Jungwirth, to Ariana Grande allegedly saying via Instagram that Liam Payne should have left the boy band and not Zayn Malik. Now, a new report claims that Payne is engaged to his longtime girlfriend and childhood crush, Sophia Smith.

Fans began flooding Twitter to jump in on the "#SophiamIsEngaged" — a combination of Sophia and Liam — trend. Many were happy about the news and offered their congratulations to the couple, while some saw it as an opportunity to make fun of the band and the recent rumors.

One fan wrote, "Niall baby you're next," implying that the next rumor will be about Niall Horan.

Another tweeted, "Louis is a dad. Harry death threats. ZAYN is coming back. #SophiamIsEngaged. Liam is gonna write a book to clear all of this up."

But most were genuinely happy for Payne and Smith because they "obviously love each other."

Despite the uproar on social media, Gossip Cop reports that there is no truth to the engagement rumors.  A rep told the website, "They are not engaged."

The two have been dating since 2013, although they knew each other from St. Peter's Collegiate in Wolverhampton which they both attended before Payne competed on "The X Factor" and became famous.

Despite One Direction's busy tour schedule, Payne has made sure to make time for his girlfriend as the two were spotted in Disney World in Florida earlier this month. On the boy band member's Instagram account is a photo taken during their fun date, showing them dressed up as Goofy and Minnie Mouse. Payne captioned the shot, "Minnie & goofy ha as long as mickey doesn't know I guess it's ok right?"
