It has been three months since Zayn Malik left One Direction while in the middle of their world tour. Fans all over the world mourned the change and wondered if the boy band will ever be the same again without the 22-year old former member.
As Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Harry Styles were preparing for their U.S. tour, the latter opened up about how things have changed for their group after Malik left the band, and what the future holds for One Direction.
Styles told Entertainment Weekly that the group has had "incredible shows" across Europe since Malik's shocking departure, with some of them he described as "the best we've had." He revealed that all four of them have adjusted well with regard to performing certain parts of songs that were previously Malik's.
"The only changes have been that the parts Zayn sang have been picked up by different people. Other than that, the shows have been going absolutely great," he said.
Despite Malik leaving a hole after quitting the band to focus on being a "normal 22-year old," Styles insisted that the group has no desire to pull out songs out of their set list that are dependent on Malik's high notes, among them the hit single "Story of My Life."
"It would be pretty devastating if we took that song out," he told EW. "Liam stepped up to do the high notes."
He added that the other members picked up Malik's parts and that they didn't have to do a lot of changes with choreography, since they "kind of just stand on stage." As for how their fans handled the change, Styles said they have been incredible and very supportive through it all.
As for One Direction's future, Styles revealed that they are currently recording a new album and that the songs are coming together quickly so far. The singer promised that the new album will be an obvious change in a good way and that they're working with different writers.
One Direction will have 23 shows across the United States and Canada starting July 9 before they return to the United Kingdom.
