'Obi-Wan' movie rumors: No plans yet for Young Obi-Wan movie, Ewan McGregor still willing to reprise role

Ewan McGregor is out of luck and out of Jedi mind tricks and honestly does not know what is going on with Lucasfilm, as the movie about the chronicles of a young Obi-Wan Kenobi is being kept discreet.

Still, this does not mean that the 46-year-old actor is giving up on being available for the role of the Jedi master, as he stated in an interview with Hollywood Reporter that we would be willing to reprise this role.

"There's a lot of talk, and I'd be happy to play him again, but I don't know anything more than you do," McGregor revealed. Rest assured, McGregor is willing to play his role again as Qui-Gon Jinn's (Liam Neeson) apprentice, should the spin-off get underway.

It also seems McGregor was inspired by the recent "Star Wars" movie, as he shared, "I saw the new one over Christmas. I thought it was really, really beautiful. I loved it." This could mean that he still very much considers himself as a franchise mainstay, much like fans do so since a lot of them consider him as a good or even perfect Obi-Wan.

Right now, however, the mentions of a standalone film for Obi-Wan are just rumors still and have had no new developments over the last few months. The last development report for the movie took place on Aug. 2017 where Hollywood Reporter alleged that Oscar-nominated director Stephen Daldry was in early talks for an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off movie. Apart from this, no other reports have been revealed, and McGregor being kept in the dark could be an indication that nothing progressive has happened with the prospect yet.

This could also mean that there might be a different actor in mind for Obi-Wan, someone younger perhaps since McGregor played a mature Obi-Wan in the prequel trilogy. Other rumors include spin-offs for the venerable Jedi master Yoda, and even Jabba the Hutt, but none have been confirmed so far. Fans are advised to stay tuned to further developments of the Obi-Wan standalone movie.
