NVIDIA news: 'Star Wars' themed GPUs with custom LEDs now available

PC gamers are now being given a choice between the Jedi or the Sith, as the graphics processing unit (GPU) company NVIDIA has released two "Star Wars" themed graphics cards with two corresponding light emitting diode (LED) colors for each of the two factions.

The GPU in question is NVIDIA's, or rather, "the world's most powerful" consumer video card, the GTX Titan Xp. The GPU's "Star Wars" collector's edition version comes in two versions, Galactic Empire (red) or Jedi Order (green), similar to some lightsabers from the franchise. This may disappoint some "Star Wars" fans though, especially those who might have been expecting the Jedi Order card to be blue.

NVIDIA has also released a teaser for the said GPUs. The clip is cleverly woven together to make the video cards' inner workings look like the insides of a Death Star, a superweapon in the "Star Wars" universe. To show off the GPUs' bright lightsaber LEDs, they are also equipped with a transparent window on the top of the shroud, focusing on the lights which extend to the radial fans of the video card.

Along with the fans and the shroud of the GPU, the card's name on the side of the shroud also lights up, revealing an illuminated "Titan X" model name. This can be seen once the graphics card has been plugged in the computer, provided that the user has a windowed computer case, which is highly recommended since the selling point of the collector's edition GPU is the special LED.

Other than the LEDs, the specifications of the graphics card remain the same. The two "Star Wars" Titan Xps will be utilizing the same Pascal-based Titan Xp architecture, with 3,840 CUDA cores running at 1.6 gigahertz (GHz) and 12 gigabytes (GB) of GDDR5X video memory, which can go as fast as 11.4 GB per second (Gbps). Both cards also reportedly have twice the capability of the Xbox One X, currently the world's most powerful console.

The two GPUs are expected to be released in the middle of November and will cost $1,200 each.
