Nintendo Switch news update: Company wants every single person to have Switch

Nintendo is not aiming for world domination, thankfully, though it is trying for the next best thing, which is for every person on the planet to have a Switch console.

Nintendo's co-representative, director and designer Shigeru Miyamoto is confident that the Switch handheld hybrid console is going to surpass every milestone it has set in the past. With this in mind, the company hopes that the ratio of Nintendo Switch goes from one unit per family to one for every single person.

"Our ultimate ambition is for a Nintendo Switch to be owned not just by every family, but by every single person, take for granted that everybody has a Nintendo Switch, then we can create new and very Nintendo genres of play, and Nintendo Switch can have a life apart from smart devices and other video game systems," enthused Miyamoto. With the current popularity of the Switch, this may not be too far-fetched a dream.

Nintendo also has other ambitions for the Switch which is to make it last at least five more years before needing a successor. This could ultimately contribute to its popularity if done well.

Also, it seems Nintendo is trying to push the Switch as more than just a device not just for video games, but for other hobbies as well. Apparently, the video game company wants the Switch to have the same level of functionality and popularity as smartphones right now, though the latter is a necessity and Nintendo might have a difficult time replicating what it has to offer for the regular person.

Though this reality for Nintendo might not also be too distant, since in its home country, Japan, it is estimated that a lot of families have at least two to three Nintendo DS consoles available for their members with Nintendo DS being the soul predecessor of the handheld console Switch. This was based on the 32 million units of Nintendo DS sold in Japan. This means that the Switch might definitely have a chance to be at least as popular as the DS since it is now at 13 million units sold last year and counting this year.
