"True Detective" has just ended its second season, and while no news has been released yet about its third season, a "Vampire Diaries" alumna is reportedly looking to be on the show when it returns to HBO.

A source told Hollywood Life that Nina Dobrev "would love to get her hands on a role in True Detective for season 3." She has reportedly told her reps to start talking to the people involved in casting and to get her into those meetings.

"She knows she has time since season two has just ended, but she wants to be first in line for when decisions are to be made," the source said.

The insider also said that Dobrev might be in for some tough competition, since a lot of actresses are looking for roles on two TV shows, which are "True Detective" and "Empire."

Dobrev left "The Vampire Diaries" earlier this year after six seasons playing Elena Gilbert. It was reported that she left because she wanted to act in films. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in May, the actress said that she always felt that her character's journey would end after six years, and she felt that "she did so much in those six years."

She also previously denied rumors that she was leaving because she could no longer stand working with her ex, Ian Somerhalder. Somerhalder is now married to "Twilight" actress Nikki Reed, while Dobrev is now dating Austin Stowell.

"I have nothing but love for every single person there," she told THR.

If Dobrev does get a role on "True Detective," this will mark her return to television after her departure from The CW show. She has previously tweeted about her love for the HBO series, writing, "True Detective is taking over my life. Can't sleep til I finish."

This year, Dobrev will be seen in the film "The Final Girls" which is set to premiere on Oct. 9. She stars with Malin Akerman, Taissa Farmiga, Adam DeVine, and Alexander Ludwig in the horror film.
