"New Girl" season 5 premieres on Jan. 5.

"New Girl" is returning for its fifth season, and Jess (Zooey Deschanel), Nick (Jake Johnson) and the rest of the gang will be dealing with new challenges such as going on jury duty, wedding planning, and the arrival of a new roommate.

Megan Fox will be joining the show as Reagan, an attractive pharmaceutical rep who temporarily rents out Jess' room while she is on jury duty. Deschanel won't be appearing in five episodes of the new season as the star went on maternity leave after giving birth to her daughter with husband Jacob Pechenik, Elsie Otter, in July 2015.

Speaking with TVLine, Johnson said that the "Transformers" star's arrival will bring a fresh and interesting dynamic to the group that fans might not expect.

"We replaced Jess' energy with a different energy in the loft," said the actor. "Everyone acts differently, there's a slightly different feeling to everything—but the show, at its core, was the same."

While some fans are still hoping for a Nick and Jess reunion, Reagan's arrival will make the chances of reconciliation doubtful as the newcomer sets her sights on Nick. Johnson said that the show's fans are divided about Nick and Jess' on-off relationship, with some calling for them to get back together, while others want them to just remain friends. The actor said that he has "no say" on the matter, but did mention that if the two were going to come back together, the reunion would most likely happen at the end of the series.

Aside from Nick, another member of the group will be enchanted with Reagan as Winston (Lamorne Morris) also becomes interested with her.

Morris revealed that while his character is interested in Reagan, she will make him realize something about his own life.
"There's a shift in where Winston thought his love would lie," said Morris.

"New Girl" season 5 premieres on Tuesday, Jan. 5 at 8/7c on Fox.
