"New Girl" is gearing up for its fifth season and filming is underway ahead of the show's January 2016 premiere. On Friday, Nov. 20, Megan Fox was spotted filming a scene for the show together with Jake Johnson, who plays Nick Miller in the series.

According to People, the pair filmed a scene where they kissed while sitting on a sidewalk. The "Transformers" star was dressed in a white t-shirt and denim shorts and she accessorized with grey suede boots and a plaid shirt wrapped around her waist. Johnson donned a grey shirt and white pants for the scene. In another photo from the set, the actress is seen walking away from Johnson as he watches her leave.

Fox is temporarily filling in for series star Zooey Deschanel, who is currently on maternity leave. According to TVLine, the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" actress plays a "gorgeous, straight-shooting pharmaceutical sales rep" named Reagan, and she rents Jess' room while she is sequestered on jury duty.

While fans were initially doubtful about Fox's casting, the cast and crew have been very impressed with the actress's performance, as executive producer Liz Meriweather said in a statement, "It's insane to me that such a gorgeous person can be so funny, but I guess we just all have to accept it." Meriwether said that they had Fox in mind when they wrote the part and that Reagan is the perfect person to "come in and shake the guys up."

Meanwhile, fans of Deschanel will be happy to know that there will be some great scenes between Nick and Jess when the show returns. TVLine reports that the actress pre-taped three episodes prior to her maternity leave, and in the season premiere, Jess and Nick—who are Schmidt and CeCe's maid of honor and best man—plan a lavish engagement party for the couple, which will feature an elaborate Bollywood dance number.

"New Girl" returns on Jan. 5 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
