While Motorola opted not to release a new generation of Moto X in 2016, rumors claim the American consumer electronics manufacturer will continue the Android smartphone line for 2017.

According to reports, Motorola's new owner Lenovo has no plans of ceasing the Moto X product line even if it opted to introduce the Moto Z in its place.

A statement from the mobile manufacturer was posted by Android Police in June 2016, stating: "Moto X is alive and well. In fact, Moto X Force recently launched in multiple new markets around the world. Moto X and Moto Z do share some great qualities, but they ultimately provide different experiences and make our portfolio more robust for consumers looking for the perfect smartphone to fit their needs."

New reports also share leaked specs of the rumored Moto X 2017. These include the possible 5.5-inch display screen, a Snapdragon 625 processor, 3 GB or 4 GB of RAM with 32 GB of internal storage, a dual-lens primary camera with front-facing flash, a home buttom with a built-in fingerprint scanner, and a built-in USB-C port and headphone jack.

Other speculations also claim the 2017 edition of Moto X will have a metal body just like the Moto G5. It will also have a mid-level price range that will be placed between the rates of the Moto G and the Moto Z. Since the Moto G5 Plus is being sold for $299, it can be expected that the rumored Moto X 2017 will have a higher price tag that could reach at least $300.

While the release date of the rumored Moto X 2017 remains under wraps, Lenovo announced that the Moto X Pure Edition started to get the Android 7.0 Nougat update. This could mean the device's international model Moto X Style will also get the new mobile operating system update in the coming weeks.
