Hunting monsters in high-definition (HD) is about to become a virtual reality, as "Monster Hunter World" has just announced its the release of the beta version of the game.

The action roleplaying game (RPG), developed and published by Capcom, is set to begin its beta phase this coming Saturday, Dec. 9 but only on the PlayStation 4 (PS4). PS4 owners should also take note that the beta will only last until Tuesday, Dec. 12, and it is only accessible for PlayStation Plus owners.

Capcom has also detailed what the beta will entail for those who can avail of it or are interested. "The beta features 3 quests across 2 environments from the game. In the Ancient Forest, you can hunt a fierce yet beginner-friendly Great Jagras or as a more experienced player confront the mighty threat of an Anjanath. In the Wildspire Waste, a massive, dry expanse with swamplands, you can face off against the intermediate level mud-slinging Barroth," according to Capcom.

This leaves the beta testers a sizeable chunk of the game to try before its official full release. Players will also be able to partake in hunts and inspect various weapons and gear. Beta testers in PS4 will also be able, and are actually encouraged, to report bugs and glitches which may have been missed by the developers.

Players will then be able to play solo or with three additional friends in taking down or hunting a monster in the RPG world. Those who have made significant progress in the beta and are worried about starting over again in the full version need not fret, as the beta will reward them with bonus items that will remain with the full release.

On a final note, the developers have claimed that the beta is primarily there to give players a taste of what it is like to partake in the quests of "Monster Hunter World."  While this may be the case, balance changes are in order once the game gets a full release, and gameplay may change significantly.

"Monster Hunter World" is set to be released on Jan. 28, 2018 for the PS4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.
