'Mistresses' season 4 renewed? Will the series continue with a new season or get cancellation?

Season 3 of "Mistresses" ended with Karen bidding a dying Vivian goodbye, and adding to the emotional moment was Vivian's video introducing herself to Karen's unborn baby. Meanwhile, April got to sort out her feelings for Marc, who showed up at her doorstep just as she was heading to the airport to stop him from going to Machu Picchu.

But what made the finale an explosive one was the revelation of Luca's killer's identity — it was Wilson, Calista's assistant and sometime lover. While in jail, Calista told Joss that she never sent text messages or gift baskets, and this led to Joss going on a trip to find the real killer. She ended up at Luke's mansion, where Wilson, donning a wig and one of Calista's dresses, pointed a gun at Joss and asked her where she's going.

Does this mean the end for Joss? Will Calista ever get out of jail? And will fans ever get to see the birth of Karen's baby?

All these questions will most likely be answered when the show returns for its fourth season, but although "Mistresses" has not been greenlit for season 4 as of the moment, showrunners Rina Mimuon and K.J. Steinberg are standing by their cliffhanger ending, telling TVLine that they chose to stick to their way of telling the story while hoping for a season 4 renewal.

Speaking to the website, Steinberg said that she and Mimuon talked about a different ending for season 3, but decided against it as "that wouldn't have solved the dilemma" that the characters were facing.

"So we decided to just commit to our style of storytelling and cliffhangering and hope for a season 4," said Steinberg.

But she added that if they had known that it was their last season, then they would have chosen to end the series in a different way.

Mimuon echoed Steinberg's sentiments and said that for a writer, it's always gratifying knowing that they're writing their series finale.

"In our case, it's always a little harder because we're never quite sure," said Mimuon.

As for a renewal, the show creators said that they had no idea as executives at ABC have been "very quiet" about the show's future, but Mimuon said that more definite news about season 4 might come by October.
