Before the end of the month, Microsoft might finally unveil the much-awaited hybrid laptop device called the Surface Pro 5.

The tech giant made an unexpected announcement regarding an event that will be conducted on Tuesday, May 23, in Shanghai, China. It comes with the tagline, "show the world what's next," which could mean the event will be about a new product launch.

While the announcement does not mention anything about a new Microsoft Surface product, a post from Surface head Panos Panay on Twitter seems to confirm a new Surface device will be present during the event.

It has been a while seen Microsoft updated the Surface Pro product line with the release of the Surface Pro 4 in 2015. This could mean the tech firm could be finally releasing a new product very soon.

However, previous reports claimed that the upcoming Surface Pro 5 could only feature a minor improvement from its predecessor, the Surface Pro 4. According to reports, the new device will come out with the Intel Kaby Lake processor, which could only provide a small performance upgrade from the Skylake processor that comes with the Surface Pro 4.

Meanwhile, tech blogger Paul Thurrott posted on Twitter that the rumored Surface Pro 5 will still have the Surface Connect power connector that features a magnet to connect into the device's power port.

According to reports, some Surface Pro fans have opposing views regarding the device's power connector, since there are people who would like to see the new USB-C connector in the upcoming device to make it more versatile.

Other spec details about the upcoming Surface Pro 5 devices remain under wraps, but Microsoft is expected to break its silence about the features of the fifth-generation hybrid laptop during the upcoming special event in Shanghai before the end of the month.
