It won't be long now before Mercedes-Benz launches its G-Class line.

The luxury car manufacturer is putting the last pieces together in a new model that is slightly deviating from its famous square design since coming out in 1979. Mercedes-Benz is planning to showcase the redesigned vehicle at the Detroit motor show in January 2018 before officially being on sale, first for its Australian market in the latter part of 2018.

According to Drive, higher-ups from Mercedes-Benz said that the redesign was done to help reduce the curb weight by as much as 160 kg while still giving its consumers a substantial increase of 30% to its torsional firmness.

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class also had its chassis widened using a new front suspension alongside an adjustable damping. The luxury vehicle also sports a new electric architecture that can support a myriad of driver assistance systems. Its interiors have also become roomier and sports a modern-day infotainment and communication system which, according to insiders, will provide the G-Class with longevity that can last for a decade.

All of these changes and improvements, which is cloaked under its old-school aesthetic, claims to elevate the performance of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class, which will also get a new range of engines that include the newest iteration of AMG's turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 petrol unit working with the Mercedes-Benz's own turbocharged 2.9 liter in-line six-cylinder diesel engine, with a new nine-speed automatic gearbox.

Despite the external and internal changes that will happen on the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the new version of the popular 4x4 vehicle will still keep the boxy look that made the vehicle famous while also putting modern touches to it and having a larger footprint.

While the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class can be used as an off-road vehicle, its potential in this aspect will be even greater with an increased wheel travel, improved departure angles, and fording depth that can allow the vehicle to wade into deeper waters.
