Netflix dropped a bittersweet piece of news for "Longmire" fans after announcing that the streaming service provider ordered another season for the Western-inspired crime drama for the last time.

The online streaming service revealed that they will bring back the contemporary Western series inspired from Craig Johnson's "Walt Longmire Mysteries" book series for its final 10 episodes.

"We are grateful to Netflix for the opportunity to compose a closing chapter for these beloved characters that inspires lasting memories. Most importantly, we're committed to delivering a dynamic and satisfying conclusion to our fans that rewards their longtime loyalty," executive producers Greer Shephard, Hunt Baldwin, and John Coveny said in a statement that was published by Variety.

On Netflix's end, vice president of original content Cindy Holland claimed that the network is very grateful for working with people behind the show because of their hard work that resulted in the best interpretation of Walt Longmire's journey.

"Longmire" originally aired on A&E, but the cable network canceled the show after airing the last episode of season 3 in 2014. The cancellation surprised the fans of the series since the show has a consistent strong viewership. This prompted its strong fan base to launch an online petition to extend the show or to encourage other networks to pick it up from A&E. Netflix decided to heed to the fans' request three months after the end of season 3.

The sixth season of "Longmire" is expected to feature the return of Absaroka County's sheriff Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor), the sheriff's deputy Vic Moretti (Katee Sackhoff), as well as Walt's long-time friend and owner of the Red Pony tavern Henry Standing Bear (Lou Diamond Phillips).

While Netflix has yet to reveal the plot for "Longmire" season 6, fans of the series are expecting to see Walt and Vic start a romantic relationship just like what happened in Johnson's book saga.

The series is speculated to air sometime in 2017.
