"Legends of Tomorrow" is gearing up for its series premiere next year, and recently, the show unveiled its first look at Carter Hall/ Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) and Kendra Saunders/ Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee).

According to Deadline, the characters are the reincarnation of a pair of lovers from ancient Egypt. Destined to be born again and again in different times, they always find each other and end up fighting for what's right.

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim gave more information about the characters in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. The producer said that Hawkman is 5,000 years old and retains memories of his past lives while Hawkgirl does not.

In the comics, Hawkgirl is an alien from the planet Thanagar, but when asked if the TV character is going to have the same background, Guggenheim said, "You'll get a clear picture of what her origin story is and you'll actually get a chance to see it." He added that fans of the DC comics will "recognize an awful lot."

THR reports that Hawkman will make his debut on "Arrow" and "The Flash" before the character appears in the upcoming spin-off.

There has been a lot of excitement about "Legends of Tomorrow" as it brings together a lot of characters from "Arrow" and "The Flash." Among the familiar characters who will be in the show are White Canary (Caity Lotz), The Atom (Brandon Routh), Firestorm (Victor Garber), Jay Jackson (Franz Drameh), Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell), and Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller).

The show's premise centers on Rip Hunter (Arthur Danvill), who assembles a team of superheroes and villains to stop Vandal Savage (Casper Crump), an immortal, time-traveling villain. To defeat Savage, the team has to travel back in time as well.

It also appears that Arrow (Stephen Amell) and the Flash (Grant Gustin) will have something to do with bringing the team together. In the first trailer for the upcoming series, the two superheroes are seen talking to the group and a skeptical Firestorm asks them if they're sure that this is the team that they had in mind. Arrow tells them more about Savage, and Rip Hunter appears and introduces himself as "from East London … and the future," adding that he's part of the Time Masters, an organization that protects history itself.

"Legends of Tomorrow" is slated to premiere in 2016 on The CW.
