'Legacy of Kain' rumors: New 'Legacy of Kain' game teased by 'Tombraider' developers

After years of soul-crushing wait and speculation, "Soul Reaver" may finally be getting a chance for a sequel or reboot, as Crystal Dynamics, developer of "Tombraider" teased the franchise on Twitter.

Crystal Dynamics took to Twitter on Friday, Oct. 20 to post an in-game art of Raziel, a protagonist of "Soul Reaver," which is a game in the "Legacy of Kain" franchise. The tweet included the caption, "I am Raziel, first-born of His lieutenants. I stood with Kain and my brethren at the dawn of the empire," and has since hyped up fans of the franchise for a possible remake, reboot, spin-off, or belated sequel.

This speculation, however, can be quite far-fetched as the tweet could have meant a lot of things. For all fans know, Crystal Dynamics may just be revisiting old memories of its "Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver" game from back in 1999. The said tweet was also preceded by another post from Crystal Dynamics that said: "Published in 1996 by @CrystalDynamics, 'Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain' was the first of a legendary series introducing fans to Nosgoth," referring to the predecessor of "Soul Reaver" and is the pioneer game in the franchise.

Despite this, website Game Debate stated that it may just well be a coincidence and could mean nothing. This is because the studio is apparently pre-occupied at the moment with an "Avengers" game with Eidos Montreal and Marvel. In addition to that, the much-leaked "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" from the company is a possibility, meaning the developers' hands are full with several projects already and may not have enough room for "Legacy of Kain."

A high-definition (HD) remake or remaster of the game, however, is still one of the notions that fans are still holding on to, especially with the current capability of the home consoles.

"Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver" was one of the most popular games released for PlayStation 1 and PC back in 1999. Its last franchise iteration was 2003's "Legacy of Kain: Defiance." Roughly 14 years have passed ever since, but the series' reputation has not dwindled.
