"Kingdom Come: Deliverance" is looking to deliver a unique gaming experience, as new developer footage shows the gameplay mechanics of the Medieval roleplaying game (RPG).
Developer Warhorse Studios and publisher Deep Silver have released a gameplay video titled "Kingdom Come: Deliverance - Of Minds, Blades and Schnapps!," and it features a narrator discussing the features of the game. The video starts off with a lush digital recreation of Medieval Bohemia and showcases how much the game engine has progressed since the developers began the crowdfunding project for the game.
The players will get to control a man named Henry, the son of a village blacksmith who is in the service of a local lord. Players will get to see Henry's story, as well as choose which paths he will take after a twist at the beginning of the story, which will compel the character to take matters into his own hands.
Unlike other first-person RPGs, "Kingdom Come: Deliverance" is more keen on realism; hence, there will be no crosshair for firing projectiles, particularly arrows. This means players will have to do a little meta-math in order to determine where their projectiles or attacks will land, making the game factor in player skill especially in combat and not just equipment and stats.
Still, combat mechanics can be improved to make them more streamlined and give players something to progress with, such as the archery skill which will help players with the discipline once levelled up. Melee combat is also a lot more complex and varied compared to other RPG's of the same sub-genre such as "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim." Each enemy will have six different strike zones, five from the side and one in the center, that can be hit by players, but these can also be blocked one-at-a-time by opponents.
This makes melee combat in the game a lot more in-tune with its real-life counterpart, where players must observe their enemies' movements in order to defend or attack. Players will be able to experience all of this and then some once "Kingdom Come: Deliverance" gets released on Feb. 13 for the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
