Justin Bieber admits fame has taken its toll on his ties with estranged parents, says he's closer to his dad than his mom

When Canadian pop star Justin Bieber shot to fame, the relationship he shared with his estranged parents Jeremy Jack Bieber and Pattie Mallette took its toll.

However, Bieber recently told GQ Magazine that their relationship remains "switched" since he is actually "a lot closer" to his dad compared to his mom. As much as he would like to bond with his mom, Bieber said he just "doesn't see her as much as I'd like to."

His dad lives in Ontario, Canada while his mom is in Hawaii, and Bieber admitted that it's not just the geographical challenges that have been keeping him apart from them.

"You don't need them as much. And for them, it's like, you were all they had. Not all, but they were so invested in you. And then one day you're just gone, and you're doing your own thing, and you don't need them, and you don't value their opinion the same, either," he said.

Bieber has a tough time investing his love and time on people, and this is probably the biggest reason why he is struggling with romantic relationships.

"I don't want to put anyone in a position where they feel like I'm only theirs, only to be hurt in the end. Right now in my life, I don't want to be held down by anything. I already have a lot that I have to commit to. A lot of responsibilities. I don't want to feel like the girl I love is an added responsibility," he said.

The Christian singer acknowledged that he has hurt a lot of people in the past since he said "things I didn't mean" just to "make them happy in the moment." The only "bad" breakup he's had in his life is with fellow singer Selena Gomez, and Bieber does not want to repeat the mistakes he's made.
