Just10 - UK’s Biggest Ever Evangelistic Event to Unite Churches and Communities
The event features 10 night lectures given by the famous evangelist J. John. Each evening J John will unwrap one of the 10 Commandments in a relevant way, challenging Christians and non-Christians alike on the fundamental values of 21st century life. Partner churches are to invite people to join the event and provide continuous pastoral care to the participants by offering Alpha Courses. Therefore, the event is expected to raise many young evangelists who are equipped to bring the Gospel to people.
All the activities will be held in a giant marquee on Clapham Common which will seat 10,000 people. This is what makes the event massive and special. The 10-night lecture will be concluded with the biggest Alpha supper in the world on Saturday 25th September. It has been commented on by the Diocese of London as one of the UK’s biggest ever evangelistic event.
The seed for the Just10 event in London was sown two and a half years ago when Rev Stephen Hance, Vicar of the Ascension Church in Balham, South London, had a vision. He had been listening to the evangelist J. John talk on the Ten Commandments when he had an image of a huge tent on Clapham Common with thousands of people pouring in to hear God-inspired talks on the basic values of life today.
Even though the Ten Commandments may seem to some as being as simple as elementary school knowledge, the Rev Bill Wilson, Vicar of St Stephen’s Church, one of the partner churches of Just10, says, “The wonder of the Ten Commandments is that they are wise rules for the good order of the whole of society recognised by Jews, Muslims and Christians alike.”
Among the churches with different ways of conducting their affairs, the Ten Commandments also serve as a common focus, so that they can be united as one.
Moreover, the Just10 mission event has actually carried out a survey to investigate the familiarity of people with the Ten Commandment. As a state of Christianity, the result is very surprising. The NOP questioned 1,000 people, and 7 percent of people aged 15 to 24 had “never heard” of the Ten Commandments, compared with 4 percent of those aged 25 to 34, 2 percent of those aged 35 to 44 and 1 percent of those aged up to 64. Educating the younger generation with the heavenly knowledge is truly essential nowadays.
On Wednesday 8th September, half a week before Just10 kicks off, the setting up of the giant marquee was already finished. As quoted from Isaiah 54: 2, “Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes”, the Just10 South London aims to fulfill the slogan, “Transform Your World”.
