NFL Hall of Famer Jim Kelly announced Thursday that his biopsies came back negative, and his jaw was deemed cancer-free.
Kelly delivered the news via Instagram, where he shared the news with his oldest daughter, Erin, on video.
"I just wanted to tell you that daddy is free of cancer," he told the 19-year-old. "Next thing I have to do, I have to do a couple follow-ups, but it's such great news, and thank God. We're blessed; I'm blessed."
"Yes!" Erin responded. "Thank God! Thanks for calling me and telling me."
The former Buffalo Bills quarterback has endured a series of surgeries, and chemotherapy and radiation treatments since being diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the upper jaw bone last year.
One of his physicians, Dr Peter Costantino of Lenox Hill Hospital's New York Head and Neck Institute, announced last month that it appeared the procedures were successful.
"The treatments so far have completely eliminated Mr. Kelly's pain and his level of function has essentially returned to normal," Dr Costantino said in a statement.
"Further, on physical examination, there is no evidence of the cancer."
Kelly's wife, Jill, told supporters that biopsies would have to be taken, and asked for their continued prayers.
"Preliminary scan results have necessitated the need for biopsies to be done in order to confirm what we hope to be true...that the cancer has been eradicated," she wrote on Instagram.
"We will not know the outcome until this procedure is completed. And so... We continue to PRAY, rejoice, live...wait and trust GOD who holds ALL things together. God, who is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End and every moment in between.
"In the midst of it all, I know He's got this. Thank you for praying! Thank you for holding us up during this time. We are so grateful for you! #prayersforjk #kellytough."
Last week's biopsies are further confirmation that Kelly's cancer is in remission.
"This is some of the greatest news I've ever gotten," the former NFL star said in a statement. "It's been a long road, and I'm still not back to one hundred percent, but I have a lot to be thankful for.
"I am so thankful for the support and prayers of my family, my friends near and far, and everyone in Western New York and throughout the country through my illness. I also want to thank the medical specialists who have done such amazing work.
"Most of all, I want to thank God. Without my faith and God's constant presence, there would be no such thing as 'Kelly Tough.'"
The family has documented their patriarch's cancer battle through photos and updates on their social media accounts, and consistently ask for fans' prayers.
Kelly spent 11 seasons with the Bills and led them to four consecutive Super Bowl appearances in the 90s, only to lose them all. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002.
