Apple launched the iPhone X in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the release of the first iPhone.
The technology giant announced that consumers can pre-order the iPhone X on Oct. 27 and the units will go on sale on Nov. 3. The iPhone X will be a bit pricier compared to other iPhone models currently on the market. It has an entry-level price of $999 which is for the 64 GB model and its higher capacity counterpart, which has 256 GB storage capacity, retails for $1,149.
Consumers can pre-order from the Apple website starting Friday, Oct. 27, at 3:01 a.m. EDT and the units will be available on contract with all telecommunications networks.
While the iPhone X is a celebration of the history of Apple's flagship smartphone series, its specs and features clearly look far into the future. With its new glass design, the iPhone X can now support wireless charging. Sticking with a futuristic aesthetic, the iPhone X will only be sold in Space Grey and Silver for the meantime.
The iPhone X has a depth of 7.7 mm and weighs around 174 grams, which is a bit denser than the iPhone 8 Plus but not as hefty. The screen on the iPhone X is where Apple focused its design. Calling it the Super Retina HD Display and measuring 5.8-inches, it is the largest screen on an iPhone. The screen resolution is 2436 x 1125 pixels and has a pixel density of 458 pixels per inch (ppi), which is the highest in any iPhone on the market.
Apple has also put an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panel and the iPhone X will support HDR, TrueTone and 3D Touch display.
Another radical change that Apple made with the iPhone X is taking out the home button. Users will now have to rely on the iPhone X's Face ID technology to be able to open their phones.
The iPhone X is powered by the new A11 Bionic processor, a 64-bit six-core chip with two cores handling the phone's performance while the other four cores work on the device's efficiency. Apple claims that the new chip is 25 percent better in than its previous iteration in terms of performance and 70 percent better in terms of efficiency.
