iPhone 6 rumors: 3D sensors for gaming? Speculation as Apple acquires PrimeSense

Apple is rumored to bring out an Android-sized phablet smartphone next year that will be gaming ready.

The latest rumor stems from a report that Apple bought PrimeSense, an Israeli chipmaker company responsible for producing gesture-detecting sensors similar to the Kinect controller for Microsoft's Xbox 360.

According to Reuters, the company was bought for $345 million.

The acquisition of PrimeSense may mean that Apple may incorporate the 3D machine vision gesture controls to all of its devices, including the Apple TV, iPad tablets and future iPhones. The technology allows digital devices to observe a scene in 3D.

Both Apple and PrimeSense have not officially announced anything as of yet.

However, a spokesman for PrimeSense said: "We are focused on building a prosperous company while bringing 3D sensing and natural interaction to the mass market in a variety of markets such as interactive living room and mobile devices. We do not comment on what any of our partners, customers or potential customers are doing and we do not relate to rumors or recycled rumors."

Only time will tell how Apple will be using the 3D motion sensor in its devices.

Apple is rumored to release the iPhone 6 in 2014. The next-generation flagship phone is speculated to pack a bigger 4.7 to 5.5 inch display with sapphire glas, Liquidmetal body, 4GB RAM, 64-bit A8 processor, dedicated M7 chip and 128 GB Storage.
