It has been three months since actors Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed tied the knot, yet the couple appears to be more in love than ever as they took to their Instagram accounts to share new romantic pictures of them enjoying the summer.

On Sunday Aug. 9, the "Vampire Diaries" actor took to the photo sharing app to upload a photo of him with his wife and their dog Ira as they relaxed on a boat. He captioned it, "Lake time with part of my little family…Smiling is truly one of the keys to life I'm convinced. Hope you smile today—it's good to do."

The couple appears to have enjoyed a dip in the lake before the photo was taken. Reed wore her hair down in loose waves as she relaxed on the boat wrapped in a brown cover up over a white bikini, while Somerhalder wore black swim shorts for their outing.

On the same day, Reed shared a black and white photo of her husband embracing her, and she wrote, "Me and my human. Hugs can have a really beautiful effect."

The "Twilight" actress added that she met a little girl at the airport and had a conversation about the importance of "talking, hugging, engaging, connecting."

"Remember how to be human. Together," she continued.

The couple is making the most of their summer as they are set to be hard at work soon on the sets of their respective TV shows. Somerhalder will be reprising his character, Damon Salvatore, on the seventh season "The Vampire Diaries." Meanwhile, Reed is joining the cast of "Sleepy Hollow" as iconic flag maker Betsy Ross.

Reed's new role enables her to stay close to her husband, as both shows are filmed in Atlanta, Georgia. The CW series has filmed there for the past six years, while Fox's "Sleepy Hollow" is about to start filming its third season there after moving production from North Carolina.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight last month, Reed said that it is important for a couple to stay in close proximity in order for their marriage to work.

"I think that the ability to stay connected and in the same place physically is a real priority and more important than almost anything," she said.
