"Homeland" is set to premiere its fifth season this fall, and the hit show has recently released its first teaser trailer and poster on Entertainment Weekly. So what can fans expect from the show when it comes back on Showtime?

There will be a timejump when the show returns, and according to EW, season 5 picks up two years after the events last season, with Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) struggling to reconcile her guilt and disillusionment with years on the front lines in the war of terror. In the upcoming season, Carrie finds herself in a self-imposed exile in Berlin, estranged from the CIA and working as the head of security for a German philanthropist.

Ahead of the show's premiere, the cast and crew of "Homeland" are celebrating their five Emmy nods, which include nominations for Best Drama Series and Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Danes. The Emmy nods mark the series' comeback since it failed to score nominations in the top category last year. According to show creator Alex Gansa, the nominations are "truly unexpected and very gratifying at the same time."

Gansa recently told The Hollywood Reporter that one of the hardest things to make in Hollywood is a comeback, and he admitted that he was "devastated" last season when "Homeland" did not get a nomination.

Aside from getting critically acclaimed once again, the show enjoyed a resurgence of popularity in its fourth season, as production moved from North Carolina to South Africa and abandoned the romantic storyline between Danes and Daniel Lewis' character once the latter was killed off the show. Gansa and the rest of the "Homeland" team are trying to sustain the renewed interest in the series with the upcoming fifth season by adding new cast members and moving the production and storyline to Berlin.

"Homeland" season 5 will premiere on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 9 p.m. on Showtime.
