To fulfill its previous promise, Microsoft will release the updated version of "Halo Wars: Definitive Edition" as a standalone game on Steam this week.

In a press release posted on the Xbox website, Microsoft announced that the previously exclusive game for "Halo Wars 2: Ultimate Edition" owners will be offered for individual purchase on Steam, Windows Store, and Xbox Store beginning Thursday, April 20.

The "Halo Wars: Definitive Edition" was first released in December 2016, but only those who pre-ordered the "Halo Wars 2" or bought the game's Ultimate Edition could get their hands on it during that time.

According to the game's description on Steam, the "Halo Wars: Definitive Edition" is the improved version of the classic real-time strategy game that was first released in 2009.

"Set early in the iconic war between the Covenant and UNSC — made famous by the Halo FPS games — Halo Wars: Definitive Edition provides a unique angle on the war while bringing new heroes to the battlefield. Control large Halo armies and direct them in action-packed warfare," the game description on Steam stated.

The game's improved version comes with better graphics, brand-new achievements, as well as the complete DLCs from the main game. Players can also enjoy the game's epic campaign or join the online multiplayer battles alongside the armies of influential "Halo" forces that will respond to their commands.

According to reports, the "Halo Wars: Definitive Edition" standalone game can be purchased on Steam, Xbox Store, and Windows Store for $19.99. However, those who purchase the game on Steam will be able to get their hands on exclusive Steam achievements as well as a server browser.

On the other hand, those who own the 2009-released "Halo Wars" game on Xbox One could also play the game on their PCs because of the Xbox Play Anywhere program.
