Horror master John Carpenter is ready to build up the horror movie genre again, as the next sequel for the "Halloween" movie franchise has a promising spot in the timeline of the eight movies.
Carpenter has stated that 2018's "Halloween" is set to be a sequel only to the very first "Halloween" movie back in 1978, disregarding the seven other movies that came after it. This is because 1978's "Halloween" was the only one in which Carpenter served as co-writer and director, meaning he may want to follow in the footsteps of the original instead of taking the seven sequels into account.
This might introduce some timeline and continuity error in the franchise, so fans and viewers of the upcoming movie are also advised to ignore the seven other sequels, as Carpenter did.
"It's pretending like the other sequels didn't happen," said the veteran horror director, meaning the upcoming "Halloween" sequel may be as good as a reboot or a fresh movie.
The sequel will feature Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) confronting the serial killer Michael Myers for the final time. Myers, in his iconic "Halloween" mask, has haunted Strode since her narrow escape from his killing spree four decades ago. All this means that Strode will now be old and nearly in her senior years, so it is not yet clear how the confrontation between her and Myers will turn out.
It is important to note that the next installment of "Halloween" will either bring an end to both Strode and Myers or have only one walking away. Still, should the movie prove to be a worthy sequel to the original, there is a big chance that the franchise will continue, regardless of Strode's or Myers' demise.
The original "Halloween" back in 1978 was considered by many as a horror masterpiece since the movie essentially invented the slasher sub-genre of horror films, which birthed several more pop culture classic icons like Freddy Krueger and Jason Vorhees.
"Halloween" is set to be released on Oct. 19, 2018.
