'GTA 6' rumor: Sequel expected in 2022

Is it time to go back to Vice City? Facebook/GrandTheftAutoV.2013

"Grand Theft Auto" ("GTA") developers are definitely taking their time with the game as rumors are rife that the next big "GTA" game will be released in 2022.

That is at the latest, though there are also speculations that sometime between 2021 and 2022 would be a more generous release date window for the open-world game. This is all according to the reports of YouTube channel The Know, though their speculations regarding the game's release date should be taken with a grain of salt as the developers themselves have not announced anything regarding the upcoming sequel.

Additionally, The Know has claimed that "GTA 6" is being worked on under the project moniker "Project Americas," meaning the game will likely take place in both the United States and somewhere in the South or Central America. This led to speculations that the game could be revisiting Vice City, which is a fictional take on the city of Miami, Florida, which in real life is quite close to Caribbean countries like Cuba or Jamaica.

As such, the game's mechanics could allow for players to travel back and forth between a U.S. city and a Latin American city which could be similar in aesthetics to Mexico or Brazil. At this point though, it may be too early to get excited about anything regarding "GTA 6" since the release date could be a long wait for fans as suggested by The Know.

What makes the Vice City prospect intriguing for "GTA 6" is that the time period it chooses to portray could be half the game's selling point since Vice City was popular back in 2002 for its neon-flavored '80s vibe with an atmosphere full of contemporary pop music such as those from Michael Jackson, Hall and Oates and the likes. It is also worth noting that the last two "GTA" games actually took place in modern and millennial eras, meaning a return to the '80s Vice City would be a welcome change.

Whatever the case may be for "GTA 6," fans need only wait for official announcements from the developers.
