"Grey's Anatomy" ended its 11th season in the most shocking way possible — the death of one of the series' most beloved characters, Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey). Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) was seen grieving, and the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital were also deeply shaken by the tragic event.

But while season 11 ended on a sorrowful note, season 12 promises to be lighter and filled with the show's trademark sense of humor, according to Jason George, who plays Dr. Ben Warren.

Speaking to People magazine at the Television Academy's Dynamic & Diverse Emmy cocktail party on Thursday, Aug. 27, George said that the upcoming season feels almost like a reboot and that there will be a lot of elements which will make it feel like a brand new show.

"The writers have made this extra effort to breathe new air and refresh everything," George said to the magazine.

And while there are new things to look forward to, he said that the show will retain the same type of humor which made the series so popular.

"It has that lightness and sense of humor that people fell in love with in the first place," he said, adding that there will also be romantic moments and that the "sexy" will be back on. "There are a lot of people who are not in couples now and are falling into bed. Everyone's getting a little bit of loving."

But will one of these people be Meredith? There has been speculation that she could meet someone new when the new season begins. However, show creator Shonda Rhimes told reporters at the TCA summer press tour that although Meredith is around women who are dating, she's not interested in doing the same thing.

"She's not into any of that and starting to wonder if there's a second life here or are the best years of your life behind you," she said.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 premieres on Sept. 24 on ABC.
