Back in August, it was reported that Ian McShane was joining the cast of "Game of Thrones" for its sixth season. According to Entertainment Weekly, the show has not revealed any details about the "Deadwood" star's role in the series, but EW sources claim that McShane has a small amount of screen time during the season, yet his character is very important to the story.
In a recent interview with Pop Goes the News, McShane gave a clue about his character on the show.
"I'll give you a hint," the 73-year-old actor told the website. "I am responsible for bringing somebody back that you think you're never going to see again. I'll leave it at that."
Throughout the past seasons of the show, many beloved characters unexpectedly met their end, so it's anyone's guess as to who will benefit from McShane's character's help when the show returns next year.
In season five alone, three characters appeared to have died, including fan favorite Jon Snow (Kit Harington). While production has remained tight-lipped about Jon's fate, recent sightings of the actor filming in Belfast appear to confirm that the character is alive and well. However, it is unknown whether McShane's character has anything to do with his return.
McShane said that his appearance on the show was a "one-off episode," which was why the actor accepted the role.
"But I can't reveal anything, otherwise, I'll never work again," he said.
Watchers on the Wall reports that sources have said that McShane will not be playing Randyll Tarly or Aeron Greyjoy. The website says that the actor plays a character who has a scene with the outlaw band, which was mentioned in the second casting call released by production, and McShane reportedly filmed the scene in August.
Meanwhile, Vanity Fair reports that there has been speculation that McShane will play a man in his 40s or 50s described as a gruff ex-soldier who has found religion.
"Game of Thrones" season returns in the spring of 2016 on HBO.
