Morrowind is about to become more sinister, as Bethesda announces the release date of the latest downloadable content (DLC) for "Elder Scrolls Online" (ESO) titled "The Clockwork City."

"The Clockwork City" is about to open its gates to players on Oct. 23, and is part of the "ESO" Plus membership. Those who did not avail of the said membership will have to prepare 2000 crowns in the in-game Crown store to have access to the DLC. PC Gamer confirmed that the reported amount of crowns might cost the players roughly $20 of real-world money.

One important note is that players will not need the "ESO: Morrowind" expansion pack to be able to access the Clockwork City, as the DLC will be standalone, albeit requiring the base game first. "The Clockwork City" features a new zone to explore, a new story quest, and a new Trial, which players must prepare for. Along with the DLC, Update 16 for the game will also be arriving and will include the Battlegrounds game mode (requires "Morrowind" expansion), as well as Xbox One support for the massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG).

Clockwork City is Sotha Sil's majestic creation, essentially a mechanical world. Players of Bethesda's "The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind" back in 2002 may have already experienced the mechanical city since it was one of the locales of the said game. However, the new DLC will let players in the city in its heyday, instead of the dilapidated mess in the first "Morrowind" game.

The new zone in Clockwork City revolves around the Brass Fortress, which is the primary hub location for players where they can interact with merchants, crafting stations, and critical non-player characters (NPCs). The new DLC will also add two new World bosses to the game. These will require more than a handful of players to defeat, along with a plethora of various side stories and quests.

"The Clockwork City" DLC along with Update 16 for "ESO" will both be released on Oct. 23.
