Details about the 2016 Christmas special of "Doctor Who" season 10 are finally revealed.

The upcoming special episode for this year will be called "The Return of Doctor Mysterio," where the twelfth doctor (Peter Capaldi) will have a new adventure together with a comic-book hero called Doctor Mysterio (Justin Chatwin) and an investigative journalist, portrayed by "Wolf Hall" actor Charity Wakefield, to protect New York from an imminent danger from the aliens.

In the press release for the Christmas special episode, Chatwin revealed that his experience working with the cast and crew of "Doctor Who" had been very rewarding. He also stated that he had fun on the set, and he was very honored to be involved with the project.

Executive producer Steven Moffat, on the other hand, revealed that he became interested to discover more details about Chatwin's character in the Christmas special of "Doctor Who" season 10. But he is keener on exploring the character of Grant before he becomes the superhero, Doctor Mysterio.

"I've always loved superheroes and this Christmas Doctor Who dives into that world," Moffat stated in the press statement. "My favourite superhero is Clark Kent. Not Superman, Clark Kent."

The special episode of "Doctor Who" season 10 will air in the UK and the US on Christmas Day.

Meanwhile, one of the original writers of the classic "Doctor Who" will write one of the episodes of season 10.

Den of Geek reports that writer Rona Munro was assigned to write the ninth episode of season 10 that is reportedly called "The Eaters of Light." It will reportedly feature several guest actors, including Daniel Kerr, Rebecca Benson, Juwon Adedokun, Bea Hunter, Brian Vernel, Sam Adewunmi, Aaron Phagura, and Billy Matthews.

The 10th season of "Doctor Who" is expected to air its first episode in April 2017, where the Time Lord's newest companion, Bill (Pearl Mackie), will be introduced.
