"Diablo 3" is bringing back something from hell for the new year, as the developers have announced the revival of the "Darkening of Tristram" event for the isometric action roleplaying game (aRPG).
Blizzard Entertainment, the developers, have announced that the said event for "Diablo 3" will be available from the start of Jan. 1, 2018 and will let players celebrate the 21st anniversary of the franchise. It will be accessible to the players through a portal from the hub town of Tristram.
The "Darkening of Tristram" will let players see the modern game in a visual retro-themed pixellated filter reminiscent of the first game, which was released back in 1996. As such, the event will also take place in the catacombs below Tristram, much like the premise of the "Diablo," which was a simple dungeon crawler game back in its day. This also means that the frame rate of the game will drop to about 30 frames per second (FPS) to match the sluggish but nostalgic feel of the first game, according to Siliconera.
Of course, there will also be loot to boot in the "Darkening of Tristram," provided that the players are strong enough to face the old horrors which have plagued the dungeons. Apart from the loot, there will also be rewards in the form of unique transmogrification effects, achievements, portraits, pets, and more should players partake in the anniversary-themed events present in the game.
It is important to note that this was the same setup as last year back in the 20th anniversary of the franchise. So far, Blizzard has not announced anything new for this event, which could mean that there may, in fact, be no new additions to the "Darkening of Tristram." Players who have had the pleasure of joining the said event announced last year will be seeing more of the same unless the developers have prepared a surprise.
Players will be able to enjoy the "Darkening of Tristram" for "Diablo 3" up until Jan. 30.
