The developers of the massively multiplayer online (MMO) shooter game "Defiance" is defying conventions for online games again with another game for the franchise, as "Defiance 2050" has been greenlit.

An announcement trailer has also been included with the reveal of the new project, in which the graphics and the general premise of the game have been unveiled. Like the former "Defiance" game, developed by Trion Worlds, "Defiance 2050" is set to be a science-fiction (sci-fi) shooter much like Bungie's "Destiny 1 & 2," and features an online environment where possibly thousands of players can compete with each other.

This essentially makes "Defiance 2050" a remake of "Defiance," since both are sharing the same formula and gameplay qualities. Website PC Gamer has claimed that "Defiance 2050" takes place approximately four years from the events of the original "Defiance" game, which means players of the 2013 MMO shooter will find plenty of familiar things and stories in the new game.

It is also worth noting that there is a TV series adaptation of the video game that shares the same name and also began its run back in 2013 and lasted until 2015. So far, it was a decent show and a public relations officer from Trion also informed people that the show essentially ties the two games together, meaning the said four-year in-game gap between the two could have been the events of the show.

Fans of the franchise will probably have to watch it in order to be able to relate to a lot of things in "Defiance 2050." The best part of "Defiance 2050" is that it will also be free-to-play for the PC, PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One, meaning everyone who owns a modern gaming platform will be able to jump in and join the action. This will also make the game's population quite numerous since it is free for everyone.

No exact release date has been announced for the online game yet, but its closed beta will arrive soon and the full release is also expected to happen this year. Interested players are advised to stay tuned for announcements from Trion Worlds to be able to join the closed beta testing.
