Before there was One Direction, teenage girls in the '90s had the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC, and each boy band had its own loyal following who would readily debate about the merits of one group over the other. But now, it has been confirmed that some members of the two bands are teaming up for a movie called "Dead 7," which will air on Syfy.
Entertainment Weekly reports that the film, which will come from the producers of "Sharknado," will see BSB's Nick Carter, AJ McLean, Howie Dorough and NSYNC's Joey Fatone fighting against zombies. Carter's wife, Lauren Kitt, will also be starring in the movie written and directed by her husband. There is no word yet whether BSB members Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson will be featured in the movie, or whether NSYNC's Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, and Lance Bass will make an appearance.
While other casting information remains scarce, Carter has taken to Twitter to reach out to One Direction's Niall Horan, asking him if he's interested to play a role in the upcoming film.
On Monday, July 13, Carter wrote, "Ok @NiallOfficial I know we're from different generations, but…would you like to play my brother in this zombie movie with me? #Dead7".
And it looks like Carter is also looking to cast a female role as he reached out to Spice Girl Mel B. on Twitter over the weekend, asking her if she would be "interested in acting in an action movie with me, killing zombies and saving the world?"
Carter has also reached out to Paul McCartney on the social media site, asking him if he would make a cameo in the movie simply because he "is the god of boy bands."
As of the moment, there is no word yet from Horan whether or not he's willing to be in the film. Currently, One Direction is in the U.S. leg of their world tour.
Carter, McLean, and Fatone promoted the movie — a Western — at the San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend.
The press release reads: "Dead 7 is the story of a ragtag band of gunslingers who must rid a small town of a zombie plague in a post-apocalyptic West. Carter will play Jack, the reluctant hero who unites the outlaws to face the zombie menace."
In a statement, Carter said that he's excited to find the "perfect partner" to make his dream of producing, writing, and acting in a movie come true.
"It's going to be epic," he said.
"Dead 7" is slated to premiere in 2016 on Syfy.
