Last year, "Days of Our Lives" revived its character, Eve Donovan, when the soap cast Kassie Depaiva for the role. The role was played by Charlotte Ross from 1987 until 1991. Now, it looks like it's the end of the line for Eve in Salem as it has been reported that Depaiva has been let go from the hit NBC soap opera.
Depaiva confirmed that she was fired from the show in a blog post on her official website, saying that she was saddened by the executives' decision just as her character has hit her stride on the show.
"It saddens me to have been let go from the show just as Eve was finally finding her footing," she wrote. "But that is the way the soap business goes. Characters come and go just as actors, writers and producers."
But the actress said that she has no regrets being on the soap.
"I had a truly remarkable experience there. From the beginning as Eve showed up in town, and throughout her bumpy time in Salem it has all been a good time for me," Depaiva said.
She went on to thank her co-stars Melissa Reeves, True O'Brien, Casey Moss, Jen Lilley, Wally Kurth, and A Martinez for helping her find the "real" Eve.
This year, Eve was involved in a scandalous storyline as she had an affair with JJ, who happens to be the boyfriend of her daughter Paige. Fans of the show were divided over the storyline, with some commenting on the show's official Facebook page that the affair was unnecessary. But last week, commenters praised Depaiva when she gave an impressive performance after her character learned that Paige was killed by the notorious Necktie Killer. Fans thought that her portrayal of a grieving mother was very accurate without going over the top.
Depaiva revealed that Eve losing her daughter forced her to "go to a very dark place that no one ever wants to go to in real life." And while it is unknown how Depaiva's exit will be written in the show, Serial Scoop reports that the actress' exit will not be tied to the serial killer storyline and that she will remain onscreen for several more months.
Before appearing on "Days of Our Lives," Depaiva starred in "One Life to Live," "Guiding Light," and "General Hospital."
