'Criminal Minds' season 11 spoilers: Jane Lynch to reprise her role as Reid's mom?

"Criminal Minds" is set to make some changes when it returns for its 11th season. Fans can look forward to some new faces joining the cast as it was confirmed earlier this year that Jennifer Love Hewitt will not be returning, and A.J. Cook will be on maternity leave for a time. With this, a fan favorite may be returning to the show.

Executive producer Erica Messer said that the series is looking to get Jane Lynch back. The actress plays Diana, a recurring character who has schizophrenia. She also happens to be Spencer Reid's (Matthew Gray Gubler) mother.

Lynch has just said goodbye to her iconic "Glee" character Sue Sylvester, and with her current schedule, it's now possible for her to have frequent appearances in the CBS show. The executive producer said that they "absolutely" want Lynch back and they have talked to Gubler about it.

Speaking with TV Guide, Messer said, "With 'Glee' finished and [Lynch's new show Angel From Hell] is on CBS … I don't think that will be a problem."

It has been a while since fans saw Diana in the show, with her last appearance in the season 4 episode "Memoriam" back in 2008. Back in season 9, she was mentioned when Reid received a postcard from her about her supervised trip to the Grand Canyon.

"She was doing well last we heard, which is great," Messer said. "But often with drama shows, you need a dramatic reason that she's back, so we're going to figure that out first. But I think she'll come back and play again."

As fans await confirmation of Lynch's return, "Criminal Minds" viewers will be happy to learn that Aisha Tyler will play Dr. Tara Lewis, described as a psychologist with an eye on forensic psychology and its application in the criminal justice system. In the upcoming season, Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) interviews several candidates to replace Kate (Hewitt), and Lewis turns out to be the best applicant and ends up helping the BAU, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Season 11 of "Criminal Minds" premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 9/8c on CBS.
