Conor McGregor news: UFC champion responds to Mayweather's octagon fight taunt

Mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Conor McGregor is not backing down from an Instagram diss match against boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., as the latter's Instagram post of insult toward the former has been met with a clever comeback.

Last Sunday night, it can be recalled that Mayweather posted a photo on Instagram showing a photoshopped Mayweather elbowing a bloodied McGregor in what seems to be originally a photo of the McGregor vs. Nate Diaz Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 196 fight. It can be recalled that McGregor lost to Diaz in this particular fight. As for the manipulated photo, Mayweather put the caption "Certified Killa vs Certified B***h" in it, taunting McGregor and implying that even he as a boxer could defeat MMA fighter McGregor in a UFC match.

It did not take long for McGregor to come up with a response, and he posted a photo of the UFC 202 fight with Diaz, where he is shown elbowing Diaz unedited with the accompanying caption "A real elbow in a real fight." It can be recalled that in this fight, it was McGregor who won against Diaz. This is to imply that Mayweather had no chance of defeating McGregor in a "real" UFC fight.

Many sports critics also agree with MacGregor on this one, explicitly stating that Mayweather does not have any chance at all of winning against McGregor in the octagon. This is due to the fact that the boxer has no grappling experience and will soon be turning 41 years old.

For those unfamiliar with the drama surrounding the two athletes, last year bore witness to a boxing ring match between Mayweather and McGregor, in which McGregor arguably held his own ground for 10 rounds but ultimately lost per the referee's callout. The fight was notable since McGregor basically had to drop what he knew about MMA and train fast for boxing in order to fight against Mayweather.

Fans expecting a UFC bout between Mayweather and McGregor in the octagon may not want to hold their breaths, as Mayweather is not getting any younger and critics are adamant that it is an automatic win for McGregor anyway.
