The director of "Sicario 2" may actually heed the call of duty, as he is now in talks to direct the upcoming film adaptation for the popular game franchise "Call of Duty."
Stefano Sollima and Activision Blizzard executives are undergoing negotiations currently for the directorial role for the movie version of "Call of Duty." The 51-year-old Italian director is now discussing the upcoming film adaptation with Activision Blizzard Studios, the film production wing of Activision Blizzard, the publisher and license owner of the "Call of Duty" video game franchise.
This was according to anonymous sources of Variety, though no other details or directors have been revealed to be in consideration for the movie. Should a director be announced and accepted though, production is expected to begin shortly since everything else looks to be ready with Activision Blizzard Studios presidents Stacey Sher and Nick van Dyk serving as the producers along with Activision Blizzard chief executive Bobby Kotick.
A script is already available courtesy of Kieran Fitzgerald, who is notable for his work in the 2016 biopic about the life of Edward Snowden titled "Snowden." Fitzgerald was responsible for the screenplay of the well-received movie. Right now though, "Call of Duty" does not have a distributor yet and no cast considerations have been announced despite having a script. It is also worth noting that this script written by Fitzgerald can also be modified by Sollima — should he accept the role of director — as the production of the movie progresses.
Meanwhile, Activision Blizzard Studio President Sher is quite optimistic about the future of the film adaptation of the franchise, and their goal for it is to rival something like Marvel or DC in terms of popularity in Hollywood. As for Sollima, his caliber as a director is quite promising, since he was chosen to direct the sequel for the highly acclaimed "Sicario" due to his work in Sky Atlantic crime series "Gomorra."
Rest assured, the "Call of Duty" movie is in good hands and will be released sometime in the near future.
