'Bride of Frankenstein' remake to start production in February 2018

Get ready to see Frankenstein's bride. Bill Condon, the director of the "Bride of Frankenstein" remake, revealed that they will start production in February 2018.

"Bride of Frankenstein" will be part of Universal Studios' Dark Universe, a cinematic universe completely made up of several classic horror monsters from films. The first installment from that cinematic universe was Tom Cruise's "The Mummy" reboot. The movie was met with mixed reactions and was poorly received domestically. It did well abroad as the film earned $407 million in worldwide ticket sales.

In an interview with Forbes, Condon talked in detail about the status of the remake and explained the film's deep connection to him.

"We start on February 1st, 2018 so it's the early days but just to be here in London, starting to see locations and to talk about sets that we're building, it's very exciting. For me, the James Whale movie is really right there in the pantheon for me. As you know, the Bride is a character who appears in the last five minutes and then is destroyed so it's a way to almost continue the movie that you imagine the movie he might have made the Frankenstein movie, but in 2018," he said.

Condon might be taking a different approach and could be looking the expand the narrative to put the focus on the Bride.

Javier Bardem is already in talks to play Frankenstein's monster, but the director has not made any proclamation as to who will play the titular role. Reports surfaced that Angelina Jolie is in the running to take on the iconic role. But the actress is also preparing for the Disney sequel "Maleficent 2" and production will be around the same time as "Bride of Frankenstein."

In the original 1935 movie, Boris Karloff played Frankenstein's monster and Elsa Lanchester took on the role of the Bride.
